Hi All,
Its after a very long time i am posting something on this Blog. But i have decided to post a review of the books i will read now. So, here i start with the book i am reading currently.
The Book "Imagining India" is written by the famous Infosys Ex-CEO Nandan Nilkani.
The book is unique in the sense that it talks about India - mainly in the period of post-Independence.
You ask any youth of my age about Indian history and the thing he would know mainly is the popular "India Struggle for Independence" or events older than that. The latest he could tell is about the dates and the outcomes of the Wars India faught aftr Independence. But reading this book, one may get enlightened on what happened post independence. People can know - what was license Raj? Why everything in India was taken and owned by Govt. How did English became our language for Office work?
Why was literacy rate so poor in India? Why is India growing now? What has changed?
Will we be able to sustain this growth? Will we be able to compete China?
What good or what bad did Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi did to our country?
There are hundreds such question which can be understood by reading the books.
I understand a few people criticizing this book saying that it talks just about the problems and not on the solution. May be true. But atleast it talks about the problems. It tries to give an unbiased view of why the problem is there. If people can understand that, they may stop just cribbing and may change the way they think.
I strongly recommend this book to all those who want to know India.
